Ah! Alright, I’ll come back after I see it. Looking forward to the movie and your podcast.

The book was awesome, though I’ve heard that the title is the only thing movie and the book have in common.

So I was gonna hold off on this until I did my own podcast on the movie, but I couldn’t wait to listen. 🙂 I really loved the movie – I’ve seen it twice and read the book a second time in between viewings. I caught a lot more from the book on the second viewing, even a bit of nearly word-for-word dialogue, but it’s definitely influenced by the book more than based on the book.

I think they couldn’t do the book justice in a standard length movie, but I would have liked to have seen the tough decisions to abandon and sometimes outright sacrifice people, and that slow process of taking the planet back over. But I get why they ended the movie differently. I was also disappointed in the re-writing of the Israel bit. I think they just needed to get him out of there in a scary way, but I wish they hadn’t done it.

I got a lot more out of the movie the second time, when I could relax a bit and really absorb it. I disagree with JR. about it being all about Gerry. What I really took home from the second viewing – and haven’t been able to shake yet – is how many people willingly sacrificed themselves, or at the least put themselves in mortal danger, to help him on his journey to find an answer. I wonder if I would let myself get eaten by zombies just on the chance that the guy I’m helping might find a way to save the world as a whole. The needs of the many and all that. I’ve got a pretty strong will to survive, but I hope I’d do the noble thing.

And also, Goonies rule.
