Since I was a kid, people have asked me, “What does your last name mean?”
I have a variety of favorite answers.
Last night I thought I’d see what Google Translate thought about it.
As you can see, I put it on “detect language” and translated into Portuguese.
Of course, I had only a guess at what the Portuguese meant, so I had to back-translate it to English:
Awwwww. This makes perfect sense! My family has had charming facial expressions for generations.

It’s amazing how accurate and beautiful Google has become.
In case you don’t believe it, here’s what my name means in Greek!
Okay. Now I gotta go try it on “Forasteros.”
How about you? Any good translations stories?

BOOM. I had no idea!
We are strangers in this land and our home lies so far away.

That’s Morcant to you! Turns out we’re more than just horses.
I was expecting “Greek Donald Miller.” But I know “Portokalos” is “orange,” and that “Miller” comes from the Greek “milos,” meaning “apple.” So what we have here is apples, oranges, and charming facial expressions. 😉
