God Bless you, Google Translate

With the help of Google Translate, I finally learn what the name “Mikalatos” means.

Since I was a kid, people have asked me, “What does your last name mean?”

I have a variety of favorite answers.

Last night I thought I’d see what Google Translate thought about it.

As you can see, I put it on “detect language” and translated into Portuguese.

Of course, I had only a guess at what the Portuguese meant, so I had to back-translate it to English:

Awwwww. This makes perfect sense! My family has had charming facial expressions for generations.

“charming but angry”

“charming with eyebrows raised”

“Charming with the hands up, oh yeah, and you gotta keep your eyes closed”
“Charming while electrocuting Luke Skywalker with force lightning”

It’s amazing how accurate and beautiful Google has become.

In case you don’t believe it, here’s what my name means in Greek!

Okay. Now I gotta go try it on “Forasteros.”

How about you? Any good translations stories?
