One of my favorite movies of all-time is Back to the Future. Yet for all the memorable scenes in that movie, today I’m thinking of one of the more obscure parts.
Just about everybody loves George McFly, Marty’s father who goes from whipping boy loser at the beginning of the film to successful author at the end. I always remembered the scene late in the film when Marty returns to present day and his dad George is opening a very special box that’s just arrived.
His brand new published book.
When I first saw BTTF I had no clue I would ever be a writer let alone publish a book one day, but I always thought how amazing that would feel to open a shipment of your book that you wrote.
Well, today I got to have my George McFly moment.

congrats, buddy!
Congratulations Clay, I’m really happy for you!
You wrote a book? Now you and Snooki have something in common. I know this is the moment you’ve been waiting for.
I almost called the book Snooki Lives. You know, as a tribute.
Clay, I imagine how you feel is similar to how I felt when I first saw my children after they were born.
Well, I certainly feel like I gave birth to something. Thanks Larry.
Congrats! Do you want me to sign a copy for you? YOU KNOW YOU WANNA.
PLEASE DO.
So happy for you, Clay! Hope you did something to celebrate! What an accomplishment.
I LOVE that movie, but had forgotten that scene and that he became a successful writer! Wow! I am channeling George right now….
Congrats on the publication! Will it be e-booked too?
It’s a vision I’ve kept for a long time. Love that scene.
I so know that moment!
Right on! Thanks for commenting Karen 😀
Ha ha ha. Clay, this is exactly how I felt when I got my first box of books. Look: http://www.mikalatos.com/2010/03/weird-way-in-which-i-celebrate-being.html
This is fantastic. We are definitely tracking when George McFly is a part of our publishing dream. And if anybody reading this hasn’t grabbed Matt’s book Imaginary Jesus yet then get on it! One of the best I’ve read.
