One reply on “From Exodus to Empire”
A parrellel I noticed is that each use of palm branches in both Mark 11:8-10 & 2 Macc 10:7 are used to celebrate the person who caused an event to occur. Judas’ celebration was the re-purification of the Temple sanctuary while Jesus’ celebration was because of “the coming kingdom of David.” (ESV)
A question for you guys: Do you think that part of the reason that the Jewish people turned so quickly against Jesus when he was with Herod was from the frustration of unfulfilled expectations of the Messiah? As you mentioned in the podcast, the Jews at that time thought that the Messiah would deliver them from the Gentile oppressors & restore sovereignty to the nation of Israel but Jesus did not fulfill anything like that during his ministry on Earth. Thanks!
