Fellas! I am a very happy girl right now! I listened to a delightfully entertaining Storymen podcast while doing my paperwork, cut work an hour early to catch the matinee of Star Trek Into Darkness, got a super fresh movie quote for Monday and beat the rain home! Unlike poor Superman, Into Darkness is a rare instance of my hopes and expectations for a sequel actually being met. The thrill hasn’t left me yet – my grin is too big for my face!! 🙂

I thought of you guys all through the trailers (then again, I’d just finished listening to you talk on the way over). A WWZ one I hadn’t seen (& on the big screen!) skeered me. Now You See Me and After Earth made me think of Clay-ton, and all through the Man of Steel trailer I was channeling JR’s thoughts – pretty much every line lead back to his take on the movie. I hope it’s good.

I’m planning to see it in the theater, and this thrilly happiness is exactly how I want to feel coming out. For me, Matt couldn’t be more right, Superman = knight in shining armor. What I want out of my Superman is that he should soar – truly soar. And make me feel, when I come out of the theater, like I am sort of floating too. Of course, I absorb a movie and come out of a thriller looking over my shoulder because I just know I’m about to get got. But I sure hope you know what I’m talking about, because I think a really good movie should take you in and make you a part of it. You should leave the theater with a plume of movie dust just billowing off you.

I loved Christopher Reeve’s Superman (1st movie) because he was gorgeous, I mean beautiful to look at – 🙂 I mean humble and sweet and good. Really those things made him beautiful. He made me feel that goodness is attainable, and that maybe I could be good too. I don’t mind if Superman has struggles, but I want him to overcome. And to make the right decision, the moral and ethical and right decision. Even if it’s contrary to what he wants, even if it hurts. I want Clay’s Superman who wouldn’t do the wrong thing, because more than any other super hero, I want to feel good about who Superman is. Not only because it makes me think I can be good too, but more importantly because it makes me want to be good too.

Ok, that’s a ramble, but I’m too happy to feel bad about it, haha!

My first exposure to Superman was the original Christopher Reeve Superman movies. In fact, my “memory” of going to Niagara Falls I’ve since realized is the scene from Superman II. I knew I should have suspected something when my memory featured Superman catching me as I fell. I also really loved the Lois & Clark TV as a little kid.

I’m excited about “Man of Steel.” I hopeful that Christopher Nolan’s presence will prevent Zack Snyder’s vacuity from infecting it. Fingers crossed.
