Fun, guys! I liked hearing some Star Trek history from both of the tv series. I liked the original series best, but prefer Picard as captain. I kinda crushed on Picard a bit, but I found Kirk’s ego to be a bit off-putting in general. But he had his moments, like in The City on the Edge of Forever, which is my second favorite. My first favorite is Miri, the one where there are only kids on the planet. But that’s just because I first saw it when I was a kid. Third favorite is A Piece of the Action, with the gangsters. That was just fun!

I am a Trek bystander at best, but I loved Abram’s take on that universe. I don’t have a nostalgic emotional investment in the Spock/Kirk relationship, but I did genuinely buy into it in these first two films. I think, for me, a big part of that is that Abram’s Spock is much more emotional here than I remember him being as played by Nimoy.

Anyway, Matt has a point about the rushing of that bond, and that maybe the movie didn’t earn everything it wanted me to feel. But I really don’t care, because I wanted it as much as the movie did.

First-time listener, guys, and I really enjoyed your discussion. Looking forward to listening to more.

I’m a long-time Trekkie! Say it loud, say it proud! I used to record the original episodes on VHS, too. If you cut out the commercial breaks (i.e., if you sat there and monitored the recording, finger ready on the pause button), you could fit *six* to a T-120 — so there! 🙂

I agree with the criticisms of Into Darkness you raised, even though I enjoyed it. They went to such lengths in ’09 to give themselves a more-or-less blank slate… why aren’t they taking fuller advantage of it?

HI, JR! Trek was probably it (so bummer that it’s out so early), although I am also quite looking forward to Man of Steel.

I am trying not to be too excited about Man of Steel. it can only end in heartache for me. 🙁
