Monday Meditation: The Way of Love or the Way of Truth?

Which is superior? The way of love? Or the way of truth?

The Way of Love or the Way of Truth?

Two people stood at a fork in the road. To the left, the way of love. To the right, the way of truth.

“I will take the way of love,” said the first, “For surely love, which all people crave, is superior. Through love I will be transformed, through love the world will be saved.”

“No,” said the second. “The way of truth is superior. How can change come to a person unless one sees oneself clearly? How can the world be changed if it drowns in ignorance?”

And so they went, each on their own way.

Many years later their paths crossed again. Their hair was gray. Their faces were wrinkled. They were stooped with the weight of the sky.

“I have walked the path of love,” said the first, “And learned that love leads to honesty. For if I truly love someone I must let them see themselves and the world and my own heart clearly. So it is that the way of love has led me here, to the way of truth.”

“Not so!” said the second, “For I have learned that the deepest truth is love. To know something or someone well, to find the complete truth both requires and creates love. So it is that the path of truth leads to the way of love.”

Rejoicing, they threw their arms around one another and set off on the Way, on a path that had no name but which they walked together.
