It’s been 30 years since we met the Big Apple boys who fought ghosts out of a firehouse. Now, the long awaited third installment in the franchise is set to release this summer. And the first official trailer is here.
The cast is perfect. Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are already well established film stars. Fresh off her Academy Awards cameo as the bear in The Revenant, Leslie Jones is another SNL player set to make a big splash.
Personally, I’m most excited for Kate McKinnon to become a household name. She is the funniest current cast member of SNL and will have lots of room to play in the Egon-esque character for the new Ghostbusters. Here’s to the beginning of her ascent to superstardom.
Do you get the sense watching this trailer that Sony is pulling some of their punches and not dumping all the best moments right up front? We do, and that strategy will play well if moviegoers are impressed by how much better the movie is than expected. If the film works, word of mouth should be enough to overtake the new Independence Day film also releasing this summer.
Oh yeah, Chris Hemsworth’s kind of a big deal too.
Legacy cameos include Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray.
The new Ghostbusters film comes out July 15th.
