Meet the Hosts

Robbie Cansler

Rev Robbie Cansler pastors The Mission Church of the Nazarene, an inter-generational and multi-ethnic church plant in Hammond, IN. She spends her days substitute teaching in the public school system, where she collects hilarious anecdotes from her interactions with students. She spends her spare time reading and writing, and wasting time binge watching tv shows. She is married to Mac, and they enjoy cooking and entertaining friends and family. They hold a strong belief that hospitality can change the world, and try to live that out as often as possible.

Tara Thomas Smith

Tara currently serves as Co-Lead Pastor at Winamac Church of the Nazarene in northern Indiana, where where she lives with her husband Brett and two kids, Miles and Macey. Tara’s pastimes include professional thinking, falling down a lot, maintaining plausible nerd cred, and being subtly hilarious. She enthusiastically endorses geocaching, redneck cappuccinos, and theological discourse. She has traveled extensively as a missionary in the South Pacific, doing Community Based Health Care and teaching at Melanesia Nazarene Bible College. She acts all cool because she once got to deliver a speech at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland about contemporary forms of slavery with a focus on human trafficking. She holds a dual degree in religious studies and political science from Olivet Nazarene University, and is sorta kinda finishing her Master of Arts in Preaching at Trevecca Nazarene University.

JR. Forasteros

JR. lives in Dallas, TX with his wife Amanda. He’s a writer, blogger and pastor (in the Church of the Nazarene). He also loves Batman, spirited debates and smoking meats. Check out his blog for his sermon podcast. JR. is addicted to podcasting. In addition to Pour Over Theology, JR. also cohosts the StoryMen (history, theology and pop culture), Origami Elephants (religion, philosophy and current events), Bible Bites (Sunday School for the 21st Century) and Don’t Split Up! (horror films). He also blogs on faith and pop culture right here on NorvilleRogers.com.

Heather Gerbsch Daugherty

Heather Gerbsch Daugherty has served for the last decade at Trevecca Nazarene University in roles such as the Director of Church Services, the Director of the Center of Worship Arts, and currently as the Associate Chaplain.  She would like for her hobbies to include hiking, but her husband made her stop saying that because she hadn’t been hiking, well really, ever.  Instead, she is an avid running, a lover of a good fiction book, and a regular napper. Although she doesn’t have many especially noteworthy things on her resume,  her work with students –  helping them to listen closely for God’s voice in their lives and answer that call, brings her great joy and fulfillment.  She is passionate about preaching, worship, and our formation as disciples of Jesus Christ.  Her favorite people are her husband Brad, and her kids Ella and Alistair.  She holds a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Olivet Nazarene University and a Master of Divinity from Boston University School of Theology.

Vindicating the Vixens with Dr. Sandra Glahn

In our season finale, Dr. Sandra Glahn joins us to ask what Feminism means in 2017. Drawing from her new book, Vindicating the Vixens, she paints a picture of a church that refuses to dismiss, marginalize or sexual women, but rather creates a just, equitable space for men and women to lead together. How can we refuse tokenism for the sake of justice?
